The Father Williams Syndrome A WS Warrior Spotted on TV

A WS Warrior Spotted on TV

My Lovely Wife and I were watching TV. Cbeebies. We watch a lot of it, not out of choice. Usually I am doing something else while it is on but today I glanced up and spotted something. In the 2 years we’ve been aware of Williams Syndrome we have not seen anyone on TV with Williams Syndrome.

Today this changed!

If you’ve watched a lot of Cbeebies you might have seen ‘Something Special’ with Justin Fletcher/Mr Tumble. A great thing about Something Special is that it has children who aren’t ‘typical’. Its great to see such an array of children on TV and it will allow children who aren’t ‘typical’ to see someone like them can be on TV.

On Teeny Tiny Creatures they were doing an episode on Jellyfish. An interesting topic and I managed to learn plenty – including that a group of Jellyfish is called a Smack! What jumped out at me is that one of the children on it was a Williams Syndrome Warrior. I called out to the wife and she confirmed we’d not seen another Williams Syndrome person on TV before.

The thing that really jumped out at me was when our first child, wiggly-squiggly, pointed at the girl on the television and said, “That looks just like my sibling!”. Although Wiggly-Squiggly had seen lots of William’s people at the Annual Conference, this is the first time they had pointed at someone else and noticed the resemblance.

If you want to check out the episode, and you are based in the UK, then check out this episode on iPlayer.
